How to play Wordle
Guess the five-letter word in six tries; the tile colours tell you which letters are right and in place.
- Type any valid five-letter word as your first guess and submit it.
- Read the colours: green means the letter is correct and in the right spot, yellow means it’s in the word but elsewhere, grey means it’s not in the word at all.
- Use those clues to form your next guess — keep greens in place, move yellows, drop greys.
- Repeat, narrowing the possibilities with every row.
- Find the word within six guesses to win the round; then start a fresh word whenever you like.

Wordle tips & strategy
- Open with a vowel-rich word like ADIEU, RAISE or AUDIO to test the letters that appear in most English words.
- Make your second guess cover fresh common consonants (a pair like RAISE then CLOUT covers a huge share of the alphabet).
- Remember letters can repeat — if you’re stuck, consider doubles like LEVEL, SPELL or BOOTH.
- Yellow letters must move: never retype a yellow letter in the same position, and never reuse a grey letter at all.
- Before typing, say the pattern aloud with blanks (for example S _ A _ E) and run the alphabet through the gaps.
- Early guesses are for information, not glory — a guess that eliminates ten candidates beats a hopeful stab at the answer.
