Word Search tips & strategy
- Hunt rare letters first: if a word contains Q, X, Z or J, scan for that letter instead of the first one — there will only be a few on the grid.
- Sweep the grid systematically, row by row then column by column, rather than letting your eyes wander at random.
- Look for distinctive pairs like TH, QU or double letters — they’re much easier to spot than single letters.
- Check backwards deliberately: setters love reversing common words because your brain reads left-to-right by default.
- Long words first — they have fewer possible hiding places and their highlights carve up the grid, shrinking the search area for short words.
- When one word refuses to appear, do a dedicated single-direction pass (e.g. only diagonals) — the stubborn ones are almost always diagonal or reversed.
