How to play Blackjack
Draw cards to get as close to 21 as you can without going over, and beat the dealer's hand.
- Place your (virtual) bet, then receive two cards; the dealer takes two with one face up.
- Add your total — number cards count face value, face cards count 10, and an Ace counts 1 or 11, whichever helps.
- Hit to draw another card, or stand to keep your total; go over 21 and you bust immediately.
- Double down to double your bet and take exactly one more card, or split a matching pair into two hands.
- Once you stand, the dealer reveals their hole card and must draw until reaching at least 17.
- Finish closer to 21 than the dealer (or watch them bust) to win the hand — a natural Ace-plus-ten is blackjack, the best hand.

Blackjack tips & strategy
- Always stand on hard 17 or more — the risk of busting outweighs any possible improvement.
- Always split Aces and 8s; never split 10s (20 is already a winning hand) or 5s (10 is a doubling hand).
- Double down on 11 against almost anything, and on 10 when the dealer shows 9 or less.
- Play the dealer’s up-card: against a weak 4, 5 or 6, stand on 12+ and let the dealer bust; against a strong 7–Ace, keep hitting until at least 17.
- Hit soft 17 (Ace-6) — the Ace’s flexibility means you can’t bust, and 17 is weaker than it looks.
- Skip the insurance bet — it’s a long-term loser in every standard game.
